Not much to say about a guy that likes both Japanese anime figures and Gunpla (Gundam model kits), I enjoy collecting figures especially if they’re well sculpted and painted because there’s more in a figure than the just the character it represents, we have to look into the art itself instead of what we see, just like looking at a painting.
Building Gunpla is one of my favorite hobbies if not the most favorite hobby I have ^^, unfortunately I don’t know many people around here that truly appreciate it or have the patience to build one so that we can trade thoughts about each kit itself.
Born and still living in a small town between the hills and the sea in southern Portugal, there’s nothing related to anime where I live, so most of my stuff is imported directly from Japan but lately I’ve been buying more stuff in Lisbon. All of you are free to comment on my blog but your comment will only appear after I approve it, some people dislike this and call it censorship but I like to read and know every comment that reaches me ^^, of course offensive comments will automatically be erased.

Hey Belela-san// Cool to find out that you’re from Portugal! I’ve never been there yet, so I’d love to visit there someday!! I was born in Japan, but came to NZ back in ‘91 to go to high-school, and got married to a Kiwi guy and I’m still here ^^
I looove Robots too!! My favourite ones gotta be Zoids// I love it when I find out other girls are into robots as well! You are girl right??

Hi Makka, sry to disappoint you but I’m a manly guy
Portugal is a nice place to visit with lots of historical places, while visiting I recommend the center and northern part where most of history is, the south is all about tourism with beautiful beaches and resorts although we have moors history where I live, some people calls us moors hahahaha.
Hi Belela-san
I’m not disappointed at all! Sorry for thinking that you are a girl! lol
Have you seen the latest Transformers movie??
We went to see it with few of our friends last month, and thoroughly enjoyed it!! If you haven’t seen it yet, go see it!! You won’t be disapointed.
If only someone would make a Gundam movie!!
Well, well another Portuguese into the same hobby I’m a complete newbie in building model kits but it will come with practice heh . I would not mind at all trading thoughts about our builds if you won’t mind.

I’ve read an old post of yours saying you’re not an otaku, are you considering yourself now an otaku? Or still not?
Not to sound rude or anything but you’re really into figures, gunpla and anime that you’re even doing photoshoots and you have a whole lot of “otaku” blogs on your blogroll..
I think you’re a closet otaku ^_^
Lately I haven’t seen much anime, barely bought any figure or gunpla because I’ve been really busy with work at the university. I’ve always liked to watch and read cartoons, but I’m also a movies lover, does that make me an otaku? For me being an otaku is one of those that barely has any social life and is obsessed with anime and its merchandise, I am completely the opposite, I have more stuff I like to do than this.
Taking photos of figures is one of my hobbies I don’t deny it but I also photograph other stuff that I don’t post here which sometimes appears on magazines in my country. There are many photographers that take pictures of figures that are definitely not otakus, I met a couple of them and they don’t even watch anime, they simply buy figures because they are beautiful. A photographer that takes pictures of cars is a car addict? Or naked women/men is a pervert? We all have different tastes on what we like to photograph.
Having blogs in my blogroll related to anime and figures does that mean that they are otakus? Some are and some are not otakus, you normally go around everywhere in order to promote your blog, same thing applies to markets, you go everywhere to promote your product in order to achieve something.
A well said reply, thanks for finding the effort and time to answer my blatant question.
I won’t force my opinion of what an otaku is with your definition of them ’cause different people have different perception and stuff. Something may be pretty to you and not to others, so there..
But I will point out that your definition of an otaku is almost that of a “hikikomori”. I don’t know if you’ve been around the “otaku blogosphere” but the are many people out there that will call themselves an otaku simply because they are passionate about something.. Gunpla otaku or airsoft otaku to name some terms.
Well I see that you have Danny Choo’s site in your blogroll, if you have time would you kindly read a discussion about what an otaku is and coincidentally I was the one who brought it up..
http://www.dannychoo.com/detail/mac/eng/image/15290/Otakuism.html
Thanks.. BTW this is mkuain who posted above.
Everyone has different opinions about everything, it would be a boring world if that didn’t happen
. Actually I haven’t been much around Danny Choo because its not the same place it used to be a couple years ago. Don’t want to sound bad and all but I find that his site has become to much “nerdy” for my taste. I still post some of my shots there linking here to show my pictures but besides that I don’t go there anymore. The community of the old figure.fm is dead when he decided to close it, and that was a great community, much better than the one that hangs around there. Even the anime community here in my country “scares” me, I tend to avoid meetings and such because I don’t like the environment, but I love going to my friend’s shop in the capital and discuss all sorts of matter about gunpla and figures in a way of good build, paint job, and so on.
I have to agree that the community now over at Danny’s site is a bit “different” than your average person, Danny’s site used to be about gunpla right?
Do you know the reason why the old figure.fm closed down and how is it different to the current one? Tell me about the old figure.fm.. I hope you don’t mind all the interrogating.. ^^
Danny’s site is still pretty much the same, in the old days there was more about gunpla because he had more free time, now with his company and all there’s barely any free time to make gunpla.
I think the reason why he closed figure.fm was because he created the readers news and merged everything together which in my opinion was really a bad choice, the members of figure.fm now only stay in touch through our blogs and we barely we see each other on Danny’s site. The Figure.fm was pretty much like the readers news of today but it was only about the pictures that we took of our gunplas and figures, promotion pictures weren’t very welcomed in there and the community was more “mature” than the ones at the readers news.
A Portuguese otaku ?

Hello,
I’m from Poland and am currently staying in Lisbon – I’m a big fan of manga and anime, but here I have a hard time finding any information about convetions in Lisbon (I think it becouse I don’t speak portuguese well), do you know any sites where I can find infromation about it? I’d be grateful for help.
Natsu
Hey Natsu, there aren’t many conventions here, and when there are I don’t know when they start or when it begins because I stay away from them. But since you’re in Lisbon look at my European shops section and I have the directions for the best Portuguese anime shop in Lisbon, don’t worry about the language because the owner can perfectly speak English.
Hey,
thanks for your quick reply. I’ll visit the anime shop for sure ( I hope it’ll be in near future ).
