The 3rd edition of black and white photos of figures is finally here, some day I’ll need to compile all of them into a book (lol). Anyway, I had loads of fun making these pictures, now with a nice black cardboard I can focus in training with black backgrounds. Unfortunately the distance between the figure and the background is not as far as I wanted, or maybe the light is too strong.

Sheryl, oh Sheryl…

Really love how this one turned out, the way the hair received the light, the mouth looks amazing while the eyes keep glowing.

Definitely the “queen” of my collection.

Strike appears for the first time in a black and white edition.

Deunan from Appleseed (for those that don’t know), quite an amazing action figure with bad equilibrium.

Completely forgot that Sera-chan is an amazing photographic model, also have pictures of her lower part but still haven’t messed up with them in photoshop.

It seems I take at least 5 to 6 months in making a black and white post, lets see if I can make them faster since I have more free time now. Still no real models, it seems they are scared of having their pictures taken by me XD.

wow! your shadows and highlights look gorgeous! This is a significant improvement with your lighting! What’s your setup?
And any post-effects you doing to it?
Would you believe if I told you that I only use a normal lamp from Ikea with 4200k, foil paper and a black cardboard?! The rest is just messing around in photoshop with levels and curves layers while following a black and white tutorial made by Greg Gorman.
Beautiful black & white picture ! I love Saber shoot ^^
The lighting cast onto the figures gives the B&W image a very stark contrast in a couple of images. The darkness of the background makes the shot look “infinite.” I might do a B&W shoot one day ^^.
I added you to my blogroll, mind adding me back? Thanks ^_^.
Thx, yes I pulled the contrast up a bit. B&W is a type of picture that you’re completely free to do whatever you want, it’s always based in what you think is right. There is no rule or technique that says this is the way it should be, it’s always up to you in following the basic guide lines and then experimenting.
Already added you as well.
They are definately youre best black and white pictures so far.I really like the way the shadows cast on the figures and give them depth.
Sera-chan has to be my favorite out of the whole bunch
