Damn space traffic. It was total chaos to get into the Macross Frontier docking bay that day. After the war with the Vajra, the Macross Frontier managed to get back into space, everything was back to normal hence the traffic. That day was the return of the Galaxy Fairy to the stages and I was late because of the damn traffic. I thought I was going to miss the concert of Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee. Thankfully I arrived just in time (10 minutes late) to watch the beginning of the concert. This was a concert I did not want to miss. It totally blew my mind away with sound, voices, special effects, you name it, it was the concert of the century. With the backstage ticket in my hand I managed to get a private talk with the Galaxy Fairy herself. After showing her my work she volunteered immediately for a private photo shoot. I must say it was an honour to shoot the Galaxy Fairy and what a great cooperative model she was.
As I mentioned in my last post I was really lucky to get a figure of Sheryl Nome, I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t managed to get her (now that sounded really geeky). Of all my figures Sheryl is clearly on my top list, not only because she’s a great figure but she is my favourite anime character ever. She was a little pushy at the beginning of the series but I knew she had to revert to a good side, her character was simply to gorgeous to be a push over through the entire series. Every Macross Frontier fan should get this figure.

Sheryl comes with two concert suits, first is the captain suit. Really detailed but a bit force wrinkled on some areas which could had been avoided.

If there’s one thing I like doing with this figure is torso shots, really like the upper part of this figure.

That look is breathtaking.

This is her underwear huh I mean undergarment suit, very provocative, but prefer the captain suit.

The shorts are really short, without those suspenders I’d say that they would fall down.

I love the hair, the combination of black, blue and pink hair is a cherry on top of a cake..

This was my first photo shoot using only the macro lens. I can really do those shots I always wanted, the downside of it is that I need to be in awkward poses that really put a strain on my back XD. A macro lens with zoom would be the perfect choice, but those can be quite expensive.
Belela-san is out of here.

Looks really interesting, so is the outer uniform cast off, and then you put an interchangeable arm in? Cos it doesn’t look like the captain suit is really thick or anything enough to wrap over the undergarment suit. Or is it just 2 separate torsos altogether in the package?
It really is an undergarment. The captain suit comes off really easy not like the pain it was with Akatsuki from the Shuraki series. She comes with the captain suit already on, two interchangeable arms and two microphones.
beautiful shots, macro lens works great for those close up shots ^^
Amazing outdoor picture ! For the moment, I don’t manage to have a picture so colored in outside (I have to train, fight!). This figure is really beautiful, but I don’t like her clothes ^^ Thank you for this presentation
It’s too bad the price tag was really overblown on her. At that price I felt the scale was smaller than I’d wish. Very nice details but my perpetual poverty would likely detain me from getting one even if it were larger anyway.
Hopefully the movie will provoke the appearence of new figures at large scales.
I really like the look of this figure, especially the upper half. The detail on the captain’s hat is very nice, and her face looks beautifully well sculpted. There’s extra sculpted detail in the eyes so they don’t look like typical spray-ons. Very nice.
Her undergarments are definitely sexy, so either way, I like! Pretty cool that you essentially have two completely different looks in one.
Awesome outdoor shoot. I am tempted to get a macro prime as well, but hearing what you say about the bending in awkward positions makes me want to reconsider. Besides, macro primes aren’t cheap either. ^_^
Prime macro lens are not that expensive at all compared to other types. Of course if you’re aiming for camera brand macro primes like canon, nikon, sony and others, they can be really expensive and not have the quality as lens brands like sigma and tamron. For example the lens I have, a sigma 50mm macro was 300€ but you can get it for $260. The same equivalent from canon would probably be like 400 or $500. Tamron lenses are really good, for example the Tamron SP AF 90mm F2.8 Di Macro (yeah long name
) is 500€ cheaper than the Sony 100mm, 200€ cheaper than the Canon 100mm Macro and 600€ cheaper than the Nikon 105mm and has received really good reviews from many photographers and they prefer this one over all the other brands. So if you want a Macro lens I advise looking at lens brands before looking at the camera brands
.
That looks like nice, for a Sheryl. I take it you’ll be reviewing the Ranka that comes out later this month as well? Or must I look to James for that?
You should look for James. I didn’t order Ranka, had others ordered and so I have no room for Ranka.
Nice figure! Makes me want to watch Macross Frontier all over again.
Okay I dont know anything about Macross so forgive me ^^;;
What I really disliekd when I saw this figure for the first time was her uniform.She reminds me way too much of our Unform 60 years ago but maybe thats just me beeing oversensitive.
Im probably the only one but this figure has this kinda fascistic vibe for me.I know that this is totally nuts but yeah what a stupid uniform can do… ^^;;;;;;
Hey man no offence taken there. I understand the feeling cause of the rough history Germany has, its kinda understandable when we look at this kind of uniform it may remind us of a past we don’t want to remember. I have friends here from Germany that don’t like to talk about that past because they feel ashamed. What’s done is done and we can’t do anything about it but we can prevent it from happening again (lets hope not) in Europe.
We should NEVER forget what happened in these dark ages of the century but when the imaginery of that time is used for entertainment purposes and kind of sold as something cool (wich definately happens alot in Anime) my stomach starts turning.
Man, I really need to get back to figure photography. Can’t wait to fly back to my hometown this coming semester holiday and photograph my figures with all the skills I picked up while I was using a Nikon D40x that my father pass over to me.
Is it really that crucial to invest in macro lens for figure photography, or does the default lens that came with any DSLR cameras sufficient enough?
Well that depends on the type of photography you want to do with figures but I totally recommend a macro lens for those close up shots that the normal lens can’t do.
